Creating blogs is one of the best ways to generate a steady flow of new web visitors. Research shows that companies and non profit websites that have a blog get 55% more website visitors that those that don't (source: Hubspot)
Below are the mistakes we often see on websites:
The blog is not integrated on the Website
The blog is published on a free blogging platform’s domain such as Blogger, WordPress. Not integrating your blog with your website is counter productive with search engine optimization. Your blog should be posted on your own website so you get the traffic and benefits that come with it (i.e. new prospect asking for information & pricing)
The blogs are too infrequent and/or inconsistent
If you don’t publish posts on a regular basis, prospects and clients won't have a reason to come back. Internet Marketing Pros will recommend 20 new blog posts a month. So start with at least one a week and work your way up.
The blog content is not Optimized for Search
You need to ensure the content is optimized to help you get found in search engines. One of the greatest benefits of business blogging relates to search engine optimization, and if you’re not consciously acting on the various ways to optimize your blog for search engines, you’re missing out on a tremendous opportunity your blog can offer to increase your keyword rankings and grow your organic search traffic.
We use a tool called SEO Scribe. It's intergrated in the WYSIWYG text editor and all I do is push a button and the content is scanned, then I get a small screen telling me what's missing. It's that easy.
Your blog is not promoted in Social Media
Make sure to schedule to post a link to your latest blog on social media. We use a tool called Hootsuite to post the content on various days at specific times.
